Sister Pat's Memory :

You'll remember this. Daddy would take the cardboard tube from an expended roll of wrapping paper (probably at Christmas), and blow forcefully into one end. He, and we, enjoyed the loud noise he produced; as much fun as blowing across a wide piece of grass, edge to edge. (You should try both at your first opportunity to relieve a little testing stress.) Daddy may have tightened his lips in a line while blowing, as in his trumpet-playing days. Anyway he had fun. Guess I'll have to send this reminder to your little sister as a reminder for her memory blog. Glad somebody has time for that. Some day we can all look at her blog together and discuss how our memories agree or differ.

P.S. Don has chimed in. He remembers the blowing. Maybe Daddy did not start that until after we'd all moved away from home, and maybe it was just coincidence that Don and I heard him do it. Anyway, I just tried it with a roll from paper towels an it worked great. Remember to squeeze lips as a trumpet player does.

Twin Beds

I am a faternal twin and when I was young, my sister and I shared a double bed. Since it was made for two people...and twins are two people I always thought it was called a twin bed. That is until one day when I was getting sheets from the closet and found that the twin sheets did not fit! I could not understand how a single bed could be called a twin, when it was only for one person. My mother was eventually able to explain it to me.
First Memory

My earliest memory is from the age of three. I had had many bad ear aches, so my parents and my doctor decided to have my adenoids removed. (My tonsils were left in). What I really remember besides the hospital setting, is the desert. I was not (am still not) a big fruit eater. The nurse was upset because I wouldn't eat my cherry pie. It made no sense to me because pie was a desert and that is not a requirement, it is a choice.

A couple kid memories:

Alison, as a child, thought that "light days pads" were for shoes (odor eaters).

When eating dinner, Chris dropped his hot dog and said, "I dropped my puppies."

Twins?

In 1948, my mother was pregnant for the second time. One morning, when she prepared breakfast for my older sister (almost 2 years old at the time), she cracked an egg ~ and it had a double yolk! Later that day, she had a doctor's appointment. There she learned that she was carrying twins. When it was time for my father to come home from his job on the Air Force Base, she sat on the porch and waited to tell him.
After she told him, he did not say a word, but as always went to change out of his uniform. My mother followed him into the house and said, "Aren't you worried about me?" It was then that he looked at her and said, "You know, I don't think we are going to have to pay any income tax this year." And on Oct. 28th, his two little girl
tax deductions arrived!

THIS BLOG!

I'm starting my second blog. The reason is that I will use this one to record memories of my past. My other blog is about my current life. I do not plan to have it be in chronological order, I will simply write as memories come to me.
